Profile: Claudia Noble-Areff, an award winning director, producer and actor, was born in Boksburg Benoni and matriculated at MaCauley House Convent, Parktown. Claudia obtained her BCom, LLB degrees at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Claudia is as comfortable in front of the camera as she is behind the scenes on a film set and in her law office. She studied drama in Hollywood under Margie Haber and locally under Mila Louw and Dorothy Ann Gould. She has performed on stage, most recently with the Franklin Players, has starred in numerous feature films, most notable Baby Mamas, has graced local television series, most popular, Egoli, Sevende Laan and Suburban Bliss. She has acted in Corporate Videos and Commercials for Debonairs and Standard Bank.
As director Claudia has to her credit the award winning short film, Phindile’s Heart. The film received multiple awards from the Mphumalanga Short Film Festival: Best Director, Best Newcomer Actress and Best Screen Play. It was nominated for a Best Short Film award by the AAMA (African Academy Movie Awards) and received a TAVA for Most Outstanding Short Film (The African Audio Visual Award). It was officially selected for its World Premiere to screen at the Durban International Film Festival in July 2012 and further officially chosen to screen at SCHNIT in Cape Town and the Kenyan International Film Festival later that same year. The film was invited to screen at the Zimbabwean Women in Film Festival, the Mzansi Women Film Festival and the Indi-Africa Film Festival. Phindile’s Heart was further invited to screen at the The Bama Theatre, Alabama, USA at an evening of African Film, was broadcast on DSTV, Mzanzi from 2013 to 2016 and was available for download on Showmax 2017 to 2019.
Claudia was commissioned by local broadcaster, SABC 1 to direct a made for TV movie, Merry Christmas Jabulani. She was Associate Producer for the Documentary – When I Was Water. She was Executive Producer in the made for TV movie, Love Beyond Words. Claudia produced the made for TV movies, Obsessed Neighbor and Victim of Greed. Her first produced feature film, The Greatest Thing, stars well known actor Alfred (Shorty) Ntombela, Leon Schuster and Lindani Nkosi.
Claudia’s latest accomplishment is the multi-award winning short film series consisting of six animated stories, adapted from the book Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales which received, 15 Best Animation Short Film Awards, with four sub-category awards of Best Art Director, Best Episode Director and Editor and Best Producer for Claudia. The series hasthree Honorable Mentions, and an Audience Choice Award. It also has two nominations, and is a finalist and semi-finalist in four festivals in addition to 18 Official Selections from countries all over the globe such as United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Germany, India, South Korea, Japan, Rome, Romania, Turkey, Africa (Egypt and Ghana) and of course South Africa.
